Living Limitless
Role models. Whether we choose to recognize it or not, there is always someone influencing our day-to-day lives. Family members, close friends, teachers, mentors, celebrities, co-workers, and the list goes on. All are people we aspire to be like one day, and step by step we do our best to follow in their ways.
In my own life, I've found Sadie Robertson to be one of these people. So a few weeks ago when I was presented with the compliment, "You're like the mini-Sadie Robertson!" I was absolutely ecstatic. However just as quickly as the excitement rushed in, so did the conviction. Why had a compliment about being like Sadie Robertson mattered more to me than a compliment about being like Jesus? And while conviction is uncomfortable, it was absolutely necessary for me to recognize the flaw in my heart. My thoughts began to spiral uncontrollably until these words pierced through: "Anna, you are not bound to the walls of Sadie Robertson."
Stunned and in awe, I immediately took these words to heart. While following role models can be a huge blessing, it can also cause us to limit what God can do through us. We assume that what they've done is the standard of success and exactly what we ought to do with our own lives. But here's the truth, we are not limited to the accomplishments of others. We are not even limited to what Jesus did here on earth:
"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father." John 14:12 (NIV)
Think about that for a second, we can do even greater things. Jesus walked on water, made blind men see, turned water into wine, resisted temptation, loved his enemy, brought the dead to life, and conquered the grave. And because He left us with His Holy Spirit, we can do even greater things. So how do we tap into the power of the Holy Spirit? Here are three things you can do:
1. Pray
2. Read your Bible
3. Surround yourself with other believers
When we choose to earnestly seek God's power and Holy Spirit, we can live a life without limits. We can break the mold and boldly step into our unique purpose. We can become messengers bringing light to the things that have never been done, breaking limits we didn't even know existed. My prayer is that you'd join me on this journey of learning to embrace the fullness of God and live limitless.
